A sale lost because of price never announces itself: no warning email, no notification. It simply becomes a visitor who leaves without buying — and revenue that stagnates for no apparent reason. Together, these five signs nearly always point to a pricing problem rather than a product problem.

1. Your conversion rate falls for no other obvious reason

Traffic is stable, the product page has not changed and customer reviews are still good... yet conversions are falling. This often indicates that a competitor has become more attractive on price without you noticing.

2. Your competitors change prices more often than you check them

If you check your competitors' prices once a month while they adjust them weekly, your information is systematically behind — even if you are diligent about checking.

3. You discover a competitor's promotion after it has ended

A competitor runs an aggressive promotion for five days, captures some of your usual traffic, then returns to its normal price — and you only find out when analysing your monthly figures. Without continuous monitoring, these periods of vulnerability go completely unnoticed.

4. Your bestsellers stop selling despite stable traffic

A product that was selling well and suddenly stalls despite unchanged traffic deserves an immediate check of competitors' prices for that product or an equivalent reference.

5. You set prices by instinct because your data is out of date

Many online retailers adjust prices based on a general impression of the market rather than precise data, because they lack time to collect it. The risk cuts both ways: lowering prices unnecessarily when competitors have not moved, or remaining too expensive when they already have.

How to check in 10 minutes

You do not need a full audit to get an initial picture: list your 10 bestselling products, record today's prices at your three main competitors for each one, and compare. If several products show a gap of more than 5–10% without that being a deliberate choice, some of your sales are probably slipping quietly to competitors.

To understand the basics before going further, our complete guide to price monitoring explains how to organise this tracking over time.
